PRINT!: McNally Jackson Bookstore in NYC – Douglas Wright

If you’re strolling around New York looking for a place to pick up a copy of the magazine, we’re happy to announce that a growing list of independent bookstores in downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn are now stocking Exit Strata: Print! No. #1 (see below for full list). One such bookstore is McNally Jackson on Prince Street in Nolita, a lively bookstore and café with an eclectic selection of classic, contemporary, and foreign fiction, non-fiction, and of course, literary magazines (two full bookshelves in fact, that’s impressive).
Like St. Marks, Left Bank, and Greenlight bookstores, McNally Jackson is all about creating a space for the reader to immerse themselves in a private world of books, books, books. Or you can settle down in the café and finally finish that damn spy thriller about killer bees and quantum time-travel you’ve been working on for a decade.
That’s part of McNally’s mission, too: encouraging new writers to write and publish, even if it’s not through conventional means. Beside the café, surrounded by shelves of independently published books, is a mini digital printing press called the Espresso Book Machine that’s capable of publishing books on demand, right there, in a matter of minutes. Here, writers enrolled in McNally’s self-publishing services can print their own books to be stock on the shelves. Need more help with your novel? Cover design, interior layout, edits? The staff at McNally handles everything if you wish and then publishes the books via the Espresso Book Machine, the only one of its kind in NYC.
How’s that for empowering independent writers and publishers? And we’re thrilled to be part of the McNally family, on the shelves with all the many great literary magazines coming out of NYC and elsewhere (big shout out to Gigantic, One Story, Opium, N+1, and the new Carrier Pigeon… kickass second issue btw).
